The Woodthorpe Hotel Prestwich was built in the 19th century as the family home of Sir Edward Holt, son of Joseph Holt, founder of the Joseph Holt Brewery. Sir Edward expanded the brewery and helped establish the Holt Radium Institute in 1914, now part of The Christie Hospital. The hotel still serves Joseph Holt ales, including the classic Bitter and award-winning lagers.
